Meet Coach Thomas

CFC Atletica is so excited to announce the newest addition to our family – Coach Thomas Ryan. We couldn’t be more excited about his vision and ideas for the program. His skills and experience make him an ideal fit that will push this program further. Thomas has an infectious positive, sometimes cheesy, attitude that has already made an impact in the program and will undoubtedly impact our incoming players and community in the 2020 Season.

“I am excited for the opportunity to join such a passionate group of people. We plan to play top quality soccer while also leaving a lasting, positive impact within our community. This team is spacial and aims to inspire kids to pursue their dreams within sport. Each step along the way, we want to serve as role models and mentors, showcasing a holistic approach to success on and off the field.” Coach Thomas Ryan.

Thomas (@mrtommyblades) was born and raised in Salem, Oregon where he graduated from Sprague High School in 2005. At Sprague he was a four year varsity starter and earned First Team All-League and First Team All-Region honors his junior and senior year and was also team captain/MVP.

He played club soccer with Salem United, now Capitol Futbol Club (@cfctimbers), and began playing with the Cascade Surge of the Premier Development League while still in high school as a junior and senior. He was also a member of Oregon ODP team and was selected to attend the Super-Y League ODP National Camp in 2003.

Thomas began his college playing career with Linfield University’s Men Soccer (@linfieldmsoccer) in McMinville, Oregon and after spending a summer with the Cleveland City Stars reserves of the United Soccer League in 2007, transferred to Azusa Pacific University (@azusapacific) in Azusa, California for his junior and senior seasons; winning a National Championship in 2007.

Post college, Thomas was selected for a professional tour in Belgium with games against @kvmechelen@rcsc.officiel, and @kvcwesterlo of Belgian Premier League and then entered pre-season with the Portland Timbers (@timbersfc) ; later joining the inaugural Portland Timbers U23 team. From there, he signed with Real Maryland of the United Soccer League and later played professional indoor soccer with the Kitsap Pumas.

He has also had other international experience through tours and camps in Italy, The Netherlands, Belgium, and Haiti.

As a coach, Thomas spent three years with West Salem high School (@westsalemtitans) boys varsity program as an assistant and also spent time with Southside Soccer Club (@southsidesocceror) assisting U12 boys that were state cup runner’s up. He has been a part of kids camps with nearly every club that he has been a part of and he also has had the unique experience of being a corporate coach as well; as he served as a North American Customer Experience Coach with Ebay (@ebay) corporate in Salt Lake City, UT.

When not playing or coaching, Thomas is likely spending time with his wife (@Mrs.blades), who is a Sports Medicine Physician with Hope Orthopedic (@hopeorthopedics) and a sports fanatic. They’ll likely have their two dogs with them wherever they go too.
