Meet Coach Gabi

A new year, a new head coach, and a new assistant coach – please help us welcome Assistant Coach Gabi Del Rayo to the Atletica family. Coach Gabi is a knowledgeable soccer player and coach with a passion to serve his communities. Our program couldn’t be more excited to see Coach Gabi collaborate with Coach Thomas to continue encouraging young athletes to play their sport, continue growing women’s soccer in Salem, and to give back to our community through high-level soccer.

I’m really excited to join this amazing program. I believe by the actions on and off the field, we can inspire our youth and community at a whole new level. Building character is the foundation of what we do, so to be part of this program, it aligns well with what we want to accomplish. At the end, we strive to be the best, win, inspire and appreciate the sport.” Coach Gabi Del Rayo.

Gabi grew up in McMinnville, Oregon where he played club for MCMinnville Youth Soccer Association (MYSA). His team was the first team in club history to ever play at the premier level and win a state championship for McMinnville. He graduated from McMinnville High School (@mhsgrizzlies) in 2004. At McMinnville he was a four year varsity starter, a team captain his senior year, was voted most inspirational, and earned First Team All-League. After high school, Gabi went on to play for Linfield College (@linfieldmsoccer) where he studied business for four years.

Post college, Gabi went back to his roots where he coached for McMinnville High School boys varsity program for 4 years. During his second year as a young coach, Gabi took his boys to the OSAA (@osaasports) State Tournament where they won the 6a State Championship Title against Jesuit High School. He became the only person to have won a state championship as both a player and a coach for the city of McMinnville.

Currently, Gabi is an assistant Coach at Linfield College for the men’s program and works with youth in Multnomah County to better support them in their communities and their families.

When not playing or coaching, you can find Gabi is running marathons, enjoying time being active, or spending time on the Oregon Coast.

I am thrilled to welcome Gabi as an assistant coach. On top of bringing collegiate coaching experience, what really draws me towards Gabi are his communication skills and his ability to connect with individuals. His energy and attitude are infectious and he will be a key contributor within our team’s culture. He is someone that I look up to in many ways and there’s no doubt he’ll make a big impact. Coach Thomas Ryan.
